senior I
Well I finally bit the bullet and bought a film scanner. Well it’s not really a film scanner, it’s a scanner that can scan film (or so the geeks will tell you). But it works and it scans slides, negatives (B+W or color) and most importantly 120 and 35mm film. What’s 120? Well it’s medium format film. I have a Bronica MF camera I shot a lot when I lived in Montana. It’s actually impressive to see the quality of the scans I’m getting as I haven’t touched film since I went digital ~5 years ago… There is a difference for sure, and I’m actually considering shooting film now alongside digital…
Anyway, enough about the boring technical mumbo jumbo, on with the trip!!! When I was in MT I was getting a photography degree. I knew my senior year meant 2 HUGE senior projects for my photo classes. But huge just meant a lot of shots and prints to show/share so I figured I’d take a killer road trip, photograph it, and use that as my matterial. I sat down with an atlas (I would have KILLED to have google maps back then) and drew a route up across the country. I had one major problem, that beeing all my spending money came from summer jobs, so I couldn’t just take weeks off for something like this. So I planned one week, and pushed the route as far as I figured it would go. Nikki was in for the trip as well and here’s what the route ended up being:
We went from RI to Chicago, then Denver, then Zion, then the Grand Canyon, Las Vegas, Death Valley, Yosemite, San Fran, Redwood, Mt Rainier and then back to Bozeman. It ended up being 5,500 miles in 9 days and one hell of a trip. Sure we would have loved to have more time, but we loved every second we had and still love going on similar trips now (see last summer’s Canada trip). Anyway, enough of these booring words, here’s the photos (I got an ‘A’ BTW

EAJ 25 week update
Well Elias is almost crawling at this point. He’s up onto his hands and legs, and can move, but not both at the same time. He’ll scoot from one end of his blanket to the other in less than a minute and loves following Mo from one side to the other. He’s also eating more food now (3 meals a day of “real” food). He doesn’t like carrots so far, and beans and rice wasn’t a hit either. He seems to love peas and apples, though. He also made it out for the first time on avalanche yesterday. That was a big event and Elias really seemed to enjoy the boat. He loved the breeze and the movement. His only issue was that he was asleep when we needed to tack for whale rock, and the noises woke him up. But we were on avalance for a good 4 hours to sail/motor around Jamestown and watch the around the island race. I took a ton of shots of the boats racing, you can check them out here. I also shot the fools rules last weekend after the update, so check those out here.
Old Slides
Nikki and I were going through some old slides and I took some time to take some pictures of them to share. These are all from 1999. It’s pretty interesting to see 10 years later all my favorites have Nikki in them. We’ve been to some incredible places.
Fishkabobs!!!
Why fishkabobs? Because it’s a fisheye on a stick! Just having some fun with the camera, Nikki, Elias, and Moseley in the backyard tonight after work. The stick is the tripod because I’m testing an idea for a monopod, but it’s all I have right now. I was basically shooting these shots from ~6′ away using my remote release looking like a fool. Moseley didn’t like the look and ran for cover anytime it was pointed his way. Sterling on the other hand could have cared less and wanted to take a whiff of the setup.
Elias turns 20!
Well 20 weeks at least. It’s been another fun, eventful week around the house with Elias. He’s getting more coordinated every day. He can now grab things as he wants. He can take is nuk out and put it back in (upside down most of the time though). He’s rolling over every which way now and pretty much goes to his belly the instant he’s put down on his back. He’s also learning to eat rice cereal with breast milk a bit better now. He does make a mess of himself though. There was some excitement this week as well. The power went out in a big storm Wednesday night. It was out from 4pm till 10am the next morning. Debbie ended up taking Elias to her house for the day.
We also got our new refrigerator Saturday morning. I have 289 shots taken one every minute during the cleanup of the old one through loading the new one. I’ll have to figure out a way to make them into a movie as it’s pretty interesting to watch. The old unit’s compressor was starting to go (leaking oil on the floor and not keeping the unit cold enough). So we had to go get a new unit. It’s nice having a new fridge, but it’s a big weird adjusting to where the doors are now.
I also found this guy hanging out in the backyard Saturday before I mowed the lawn (while picking up Mo’s land mines). Moseley was out with me and didn’t even notice him until I put his nose right down to him… Then he followed the toad around the yard for ~10 minutes cutting off it’s escape routes. I grabbed the camera and was able to grab a few shots before the toad escaped under the deck.
